PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy in Las Vegas

PRP: Your Body’s Natural Healing Response

One of our most versatile in-office orthobiologic treatments is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy, a procedure that taps into your body’s natural healing powers—specifically your own platelets—to promote your body’s natural healing response and reduce discomfort. If you’re dealing with stubborn knee pain, shoulder injuries from sports, or nagging elbow tendonitis, PRP may be a key treatment option for you, We’re proud to offer these, serving patients in Henderson, Summerlin, and beyond, as well.

The healing
power of platelets
in orthopedic care

Platelets help your body rebuild,
repair, and regenerate.

Platelets are components of our blood that help form clots when we have cuts or are bleeding. They also contain growth factors, or small proteins that aid in the healing process. In orthopedics, we use platelets to enhance recovery, improve outcomes, and accelerate your body’s natural healing processes.

What Is PRP?

PRP stands for “Platelet-Rich Plasma,” and it’s essentially a concentrated dose of your body’s own platelets.

Think of platelets as the “first responders” in your bloodstream, rushing to the site of an injury when you get a cut or sprain. One main function of platelets is forming clots when you’re cut or bleeding. They release growth factors that signal cells in your body to repair and rebuild tissue

During a PRP procedure, we draw blood, similar to when you get labwork done, and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the blood components right in our office. By isolating and concentrating these “all-star healing cells,” we can then re-inject them exactly where you need support—such as a knee, shoulder, elbow, or other trouble spot.

Why it’s effective

Promote Healing Response

Platelets are naturally involved in tissue repair, so amplifying their concentration at an injury site can supercharge your body’s natural healing process.

Safe & Natural

It’s autologous (meaning it comes from your own body), so there’s no risk of rejection or serious adverse reactions.

Biology First

You’re harnessing your own biology and your body’s own natural cells—no synthetic chemicals or donor products required.

How Does Protein Concentrate Fit In?

In addition to traditional PRP, we may recommend a “protein concentrate” (sometimes called “plasma concentrate”). This is essentially a more refined version of PRP, created by filtering and processing the leftover plasma after the PRP is processed.

Common Uses for
PRP Therapy

PRP is a versatile treatment that can be applied to and has been researched in a variety of joint, tendon, and ligament issues. Here are some of the most common conditions we address:

Knee Pain &
Osteoarthritis

Mild to moderate arthritis, ligament sprains, or meniscal injuries often respond well to PRP. Many patients come to us looking for a way to delay or avoid more invasive
procedures like knee surgery.

Knee Pain &
Osteoarthritis

Rotator cuff strains and small tears—or issues like impingement—can benefit from the extra healing boost of platelets. This is especially common for athletes or active adults who need full shoulder function.

Elbow
Tendonitis

Tendon injuries like tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow can linger for months. PRP injections often help by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue repair in
the affected tendons.

Hip, Ankle, or
Chronic Sports Injuries

Aching hips or ankles, strained ligaments, and other musculoskeletal injuries may also respond well to PRP. We see many weekend warriors looking to get back to their favorite sports without a long downtime.

What to Expect

Procedure & Recovery

1

Comprehensive
Expertise

We start by drawing your blood—usually more than what you’d give for a routine lab test, but less than if you were donating blood (the amount of blood we draw has an impact on outcome of the procedure!).
We can test your blood in the office to see what your platelet level is on that day.  Then, we can calculate the total amount based on the volume of the blood draw.

2

Centrifugation &
Preparation

The sample is placed in a specialized centrifuge that spins at high speed. This process separates the platelets from the rest of the blood components, creating a concentrated solution. The number of platelets we end up with has an impact on the outcome as well. We invested in special lab equipment to be able to measure what will be injected right there in our office. This is our effort to deliver the best possible result.

3

Injection

Once the PRP (or protein concentrate) is ready, we use imaging guidance (usuallty ultrasound, but also can be done with X-ray) to deliver it precisely where you need it—whether that’s a knee joint, a shoulder tendon, or another site.

4

Recovery &
Follow-Up

It’s often an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be able to head home the same day. You might feel some mild soreness or swelling for a short period, but most people return to normal activities quickly—sometimes even within a few days. We’ll guide you on any necessary rest, bracing, or physical therapy to optimize your healing.

Potential Benefits
& Results

For many, PRP can be a big step forward compared to relying solely on medications, braces, or ongoing physical therapy. Results vary from person to person—factors like overall health, injury severity, and post-injection rehab efforts all play a role. But when combined with a comprehensive treatment plan, PRP has shown positive outcomes for many patients. We’ll discuss the results and research studies that match your particular issue to give you a sense of what benefits you might get from PRP treatment.

Aids your body’s healing process from sports injuries or chronic nagging issues.

Possibility of Delaying Surgery particularly if you’re dealing with early-stage osteoarthritis or partial tears in tendons and ligaments.

Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ)

Most patients say it’s similar to a standard injection—mild discomfort from the needle but nothing intolerable. Any soreness typically subsides quickly. Patients can have soreness for about 2 days after an injection that usually resolves without additional treatment.

The number of sessions varies. Some patients need just one injection, while others benefit from a series of two or three over a few months. We’ll recommend a schedule based on your specific diagnosis.

Although there are mountains of evidence supporting its use, PRP is rarely, if ever, covered by insurance. We encourage you to contact our office; we can help verify your particular insurance coverage or discuss financing options if needed.
